Municipal Officials Training

Welcome to the Stream and Floodplain Management Trainings

Stream Process 101 is designed for Municipal Officials in the New York City (NYC) West of Hudson (WOH) Water Supply Watershed. However, the training includes valuable information applicable to stream and floodplain management in many communities. Streams and rivers run through every Catskills community. This training will introduce you to core stream science concepts and connect you with resources and programs to help protect these vital community assets.

The training takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate. Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals members are required by New York State statute to complete 4 hours of training annually. Please consult your local governing body to determine whether this training count toward that requirement.

Trainings are a collaborative effort by NYS Department of Environmental Protection, SUNY Ulster, Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County, Rondout Neversink Stream Program and the Soil & Water Conservation Districts of Ulster, Delaware, Greene, and Sullivan County. These partners share the goal of managing rivers and floodplains to meet multiple community objectives such as reducing the risk of flood hazards to public infrastructure and private property, improving river ecosystem health and maintaining excellent water quality.
